Laurie Halse Anderson book trailer contest

Have you read / loved Laurie's books Speak and Twisted? Here's a contest for you--create a book trailer for either one, submit to YouTube, and Laurie herself will choose a winner. One winner for each book will receive an 8G iPod Touch (oh yeah, and their school or public library will win 5 signed copies of that book). For the complete rules, check out Laurie's blog. Don't know what a book trailer is or how to make one? I like to post book trailers on the left sidebar every week.

How to make one... that's a little harder. Here are a couple of web resources about making book trailers, geared more toward writers:
http://canblog.typepad.com/canbookmarketing/2007/02/make_a_book_tra.html
http://brendacoulter.blogspot.com/2007/06/promoting-your-novel-how-to-make-book.html
Essentially this: you can either film a scene or variety of scenes from the novel and edit it to create something that looks similar to a movie trailer. Or, you can take still shots (either photos you took yourself, or photos that are not copyrighted--check out Flickr's Creative Commons), and using Windows Movie Maker, shuffle those pictures with text and music to create a book trailer. It's up to you!

In other news, Laurie also announced on her blog the title of her next YA novel, Wintergirls, due out in May 2009. Chains, her next historical fiction novel, will be released on Oct. 21.
